What about our kids?
Is it me or when it comes to all the barefoot blogs its about “It’s the right thing to do for us”. No matter how much I agree with most of these blogs I have to disagree with most of their focus. From my perception most of the barefoot bloggers are only concerned with the Adult population. I can appreciate this because its easy to see just how bad the form is of many of these runners. We all want to fix what’s broken by changing a life formed habit.
What about our kids? Who is trying to fix them? Who is trying to prevent them from forming the habits we are now trying to fix? Is it not much easier to prevent a habit from forming? Take for example smoking. While socially acceptable in the 1970’s we have learned just how bad it is for your health. Has society not made a conscious effort to teach our children it is wrong for them to smoke?
Who is going to help change the minds of our gym teachers who tell our children that athletic trainers are required for gym class, and get down on them when they wear minimalist footwear?
My suggestion is to all the Barefoot Bloggers- Stop focusing on the broken people and focus on the future. Help make barefoot/minimalist running normal in our kids, not just adults. By focusing on today’s problem with adults we are not focusing on tomorrow’s problem of future adults.
I challenge the barefoot community to take up this cause for the health of our children. Who’s with me…?
Here is a list of Bloggers that are passionate about the movement:
Maple GroveBarefoot Guy
Barefoot Angie Bee
Healthy Barefoot Blog
BarefootRoot
there are hundreds more out there as well
What’s missing from their passion is the future
P.S.- I did do my research and found one blog that actually talks about this subject
ToeSalad I am sure there is more information out there, but as we move forward where is the focus?
